Are you paddleboard enthusiasts? We’ve got just what you need! Here, you’ll find our top 10 list of the best accessories for a perfect day out on the paddleboard.
In recent years, paddleboarding has gained significant popularity, attracting people of all ages who are passionate about the outdoors and seeking new adventures. This water sport provides the perfect opportunity to explore nature and enjoy the sun. However, to enhance your paddleboarding adventures, having the right accessories is essential.
Items like a whistle, a leash, a life jacket, and a safety harness are mandatory and won’t be covered in this article. Instead, we’ll dive into the 10 must-have accessories to bring along to fully enjoy your time on the water!
1. Inflatable Cushion / Kayak Seat
Want to relax on your paddleboarding day? An inflatable cushion to sit comfortably and enjoy the view will be your best friend! While we all love adventurous trips to see amazing views, having a comfy cushion lets you enjoy these moments without any discomfort. That’s why this accessory is essential for paddleboarding. We chose the Aqua Leisure cushion for ourselves.

We really like it because it’s very affordable ($20) and inflates quickly. Plus, the attached mat prevents slipping, ensuring comfort and stability during our trips. Whether on water or land, investing in a good cushion like this can make a real difference.
A kayak seat is another great option, although it may be more expensive. It might be more durable than the inflatable cushion, providing additional support and better ergonomics during outdoor activities. This makes it a worthwhile investment.
However, if you’re looking for versatility, the inflatable cushion scores higher compared to the kayak seat. We mostly use it for paddleboarding but also bring it to the beach! Compact when packed away, it’s an essential accessory for all your adventures!
2. Waterproof Cellphone Pouch
The waterproof cellphone pouch is often an overlooked accessory but can be incredibly useful. While most phones have good water resistance, the case provides better protection against splashes. Imagine yourself river rafting or paddling on a choppy lake — trust us, you’ll be glad to have one with you. Moreover, with the included cord, you can attach the pouch to your paddleboard and paddle without worry! You can even take photos without fearing your phone will take a dive into the water, as most pouches allow you to still use your device.

3. Waterproof Bag
A waterproof bag is truly essential to always have with you! It’s perfect for keeping important items such as car keys, wallet, electronics, and spare clothes safe. After a day on the water, there’s nothing worse than ending up with soaking wet clothes! And what’s even better is that they come in various sizes and styles, suitable for all water-based needs and adventures. As for us, we’ve opted for this bag and are very satisfied:
If you shop on Amazon, many kits already come with a cellphone case, so we strongly recommend combining the two! The one we have is from Earth Pak, and we love it. It’s highly durable, has a 20-liter capacity, and is reasonably priced. Plus, this model comes with a waterproof cellphone case.

4. Anchor
Prefer lounging on your board and enjoying the sun? If so, this item should definitely be part of your accessories for your next adventure. For us, the anchor is a very practical accessory that we bring every time we go on the water when we want to relax.
Imagine yourself on a peaceful lake at sunset with your loved one. You’ve prepared a picnic for a perfect date on the water. To keep your paddleboard securely in place at this amazing spot, an anchor is the ideal accessory! It allows you to enjoy every moment without drifting, letting you savor your meal in peace.
On Amazon, you’ll find several models designed specifically for paddleboarding. These anchors are typically smaller than conventional anchors, making them easy to store. We highly recommend getting one. In our case, we opted for the Gradient Fitness model and are very satisfied. It’s foldable, weighs 1.6 kg, and the rope is very long and durable. This product costs around $50 on Amazon.

5. Water shoes
Protecting your feet is crucial, especially when walking on rough or slippery surfaces. Water shoes may affect your tan, but they prevent injuries both on and off the water. Additionally, they are lightweight and dry quickly.
For us, when planning to spend the afternoon lounging on a lake, we don’t usually bring them. However, for river descents, we find them very useful. Rivers often have banks where it’s possible to stop. Water shoes are practical for walking on unstable rocks to reach the beach.
Moreover, in high-water flow situations or emergencies, wearing water shoes can prevent worsening injuries. Choose durable and comfortable ones.
You can find many affordable models online. Ours almost feels like wearing slippers when they’re on your feet, and they’re very slip-resistant, which is why we love them!

6. Cooler
Refreshing drinks and snacks for a hot, sunny day? Yes, please! A cooler is the perfect accessory for that. We recommend choosing a waterproof cooler that is compact and easy to transport.
Some coolers are especially handy as they are designed to attach to paddleboards. This allows you to keep your food secure while saving space on your board. It makes paddle outings even more enjoyable and convenient, letting you fully enjoy your day on the water without logistical worries.

7. Electric Pump
Inflating your board can be a daunting task, leaving you exhausted before even taking your first paddle stroke. That’s where our seventh essential accessory comes in handy! An electric pump allows you to inflate your board while you prepare everything else, getting you on the water faster. Depending on your board’s size, inflation times can vary, but generally, it takes about 10 minutes.
These pumps typically operate using your vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket, and most models available online have specifications such as 110W, 12V, and 20 PSI. So, if you’re traveling without access to a power source, you may need to inflate manually. Rechargeable models are available but tend to be pricier. Depending on your paddleboarding frequency and needs, investing in an electric pump could be worthwhile. Otherwise, a manual pump provides a good workout and ensures you stay fit!

8. Kayak Paddle
Using a kayak paddle for paddleboarding can enhance your water experience, combining efficiency and performance. While it’s easier to use this type of paddle in a seated position, now that you have your inflatable cushion, you’ll be better prepared to fully enjoy your adventure!
A kayak paddle makes your movements smoother and more effective, especially in windy conditions or rough waters. Additionally, it proves extremely useful during river descents where currents can be unpredictable and challenging. A kayak paddle enables quick reactions, allowing you to navigate obstacles and maintain your course effortlessly while looking like a pro!
Remember to choose the right paddle length to maximize your comfort and performance. A well-fitted paddle makes all the difference. Consult with an expert to determine the ideal length for you.
9. Replacement Fin
A replacement fin might seem unnecessary, but in reality, it can be very useful! During our trip to Gaspésie, we descended the Bonaventure River where the river bottom was not really deep. We spoke with others who had done the descent before and had broken their fin.
So, we opted to paddle without a fin, thinking it might be a good idea to avoid breaking it. However, our paddleboard became difficult to control, veering in all directions.
We strongly advise always using a fin. Some paddleboards come with 3 fins (2 small ones and a larger one), while others have only 1 fin. Generally, the large fin is about 9 inches tall, and the small fins are around 4 inches. Therefore, if your paddleboard has 3 fins and you plan to navigate shallow waters, it’s better

to remove the large fin. If your paddleboard has only one fin, we recommend getting a second shorter fin for such situations.
Do your research to ensure the fin is compatible with your paddleboard, although the attachment method is typically quite standard.
10. Repair Kit
A repair kit is an essential accessory for any paddleboarding enthusiast. Even the best boards can suffer accidental damage such as punctures or air leaks, especially when navigating in shallow waters or along rocky shores. It always seems to happen when you’re farthest from your starting point, doesn’t it?
A good kit typically includes parts of various sizes, special PVC adhesive, and sometimes additional tools like valve keys. These kits are compact and easy to carry, allowing you to repair your paddleboard quickly and effectively when needed. It’s like having your own first aid kit for your board! So, we strongly recommend getting one. After all, it’s better to be prepared than caught off guard when an issue arises. To get a repair kit with highly effective adhesive, click on this link.
